Course purpose

For the majority of manufacturers, research has shown that your ESG impact — and risks — is in your
supply chain. In fact, the majority of your environmental footprint and your biggest human rights risks
can be directly attributed to your supply chain, supplier conduct, and sourcing. Supply chains were never
built with sustainability in mind, making them the prime candidate for infractions, reputational damage,
greenwashing accusations, and operational challenges to a company’s overall sustainability efforts.

The supply chain is also what the majority of your stakeholders care about when assessing your ESG
performance. Here are some of the top drivers:

Customers, both business to business and the general buying public, care about where you get your materials and how they are handled. That’s why leading manufacturers include ESG transparency in their sales strategies.

Investors are a leading force in the adoption of ESG policies, reserving trillions in investment dollars for ESG and sustainability. In fact, a McKinsey & Company study found that 82 percent of investors are in favor of corporate ESG disclosures being required by law.

Regulators are shifting focus from direct business impacts to the supply chain, evidenced by the rapid emergence of supply chain due diligence regulations from both the U.S. and the EU.

This course explores the concepts, challenges, and strategies related to sustainability within supply chains. Participants will learn how to assess, design, and manage sustainable supply chain practices.
